SEA-PAC, the Northwest’s largest convention, and home of the ARRL Northwestern Division Convention, is now officially only a week away. The event is held every year at the Seaside Convention Center, 415 First Avenue, Seaside, OR 97138. This year the convention spans from Friday, May 31st through Sunday, June 2nd, and draws over 2,000 participants each year.
Whether you are brand new to amateur radio, or a seasoned veteran of the hobby, there are daily educational seminars to satisfy everyone. There is also a large flea market, and you will have the ability to check out the latest radios from all the major suppliers.
On Saturday, 10 AM-11:50 AM we will hold the popular ARRL Forum, your chance to get your League questions answered. If you have a question about the current status of the Amateur Radio Parity Act, or where we are with allowing PACTOR 4 on the ham bands, bring them! Forum panelists will include Howard Michel, WB2ITX, ARRL CEO; Rick Roderick, K5UR, ARRL President; Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R, ARRL Product Development Manager; Mark Tharp, KB7HDX, Northwestern Division Vice Director, and myself.
The keynote speaker for the Saturday evening banquet is Jeri Ellsworth, AI6TK. Jeri has her roots in the Northwest, and is now is a silicon valley entrepreneur and inventor. At the International DX Convention at Visalia last year she demonstrated a new virtual reality based 3D antenna modeling system, which was a big hit with attendees. What will she bring this year?
Vice Director Tharp and I will be spending quite a bit of time in the ARRL booth all weekend. We both hope to meet as many of you there as we can!
